Just before we got locked down by covid 19 we were lucky to enjoy a weeks break at Wild Duck Holiday Park in Norfolk with my cousin Hannah.
The park is absolutely lovely, a lot of of upgrades and decoration have been done and it really shows throughout that Haven are spending a lot of money to make all of their parks perfect staycation breaks for the family.
Wild Duck Holiday Park is smaller than Hopton Holiday Village, where we holidayed last year before Jack came along, click for review. It was a lot more compact which I really liked and appealed to us especially as Frankie hasn’t been in a pram for nearly two years now but his legs still get tired.
We were very kindly upgraded on arrival to a prestige caravan situated on ‘Spoonbill Court’ which was a 5 minute walk to the centre. We were left some goodies too the shortbread is gorgeous!
The caravan was brand new, we were the first to stay in it and it really showed it was immaculate! It had three bedrooms, two bathrooms & a kitchen/living area. The TV has lots of channels & you can connect your phone to the bluetooth speaker too. We parked our car right outside the caravan & we even had a dishwasher! Haven caravans have all the neccessites you need to cook indoors, saucepans, utensils etc etc.
The beds were comfy & we even pulled out the sofabed and slept in the lounge as per Frankie’s orders on our last night and the caravan was lovely and warm throughout our stay.
I did bring a bumbo for Jack but then decided to hire a highchair for our stay which was delivered to our caravan straight away & only cost £7 Monday-Friday, so much easier than remembering your own! You can also rent travel cots too making the car less packed out on the way!
On the site there is lots to do including go karts, mini golf course, swimming pool inside and out, outdoor parks, arcades etc. Everything you’d expect on a caravan site.
Their swimming pool was fantastic for both Frankie & Jack, you aren’t allowed to take pictures and I couldn’t find any but there is a baby pool area with water features for them to play with, like tubed drains & a small boat slide plus a large swimming pool with three water slides Frankie loved going up and down! The changing facilities were really clean & there were family change rooms. You can buy swim nappies, armbands etc.
There is an outdoor pool open which opens from May to late summer which looked fab!
Frankie participated in Futsal Ninos, football training for the little ones and indoor sports which was in the Multi Sports Court, both were well ran and the man that lead the activities made a big fuss of Frankie which he loved and he definently enjoyed football & especially archery!
There is also a small shop in the middle which is reasonably priced and has a fresh bakery on site too where we bought crossaints and a costa machine every morning! It is in the middle which is where the swimming pool, live lounge, arcades and their on site food restaurants are.
We cooked indoors & as above got fresh bread and food from the on site shop but we did eat at the Sitting Duck Restaurant which was lovely and well priced too. Their pie was extremely yummy and Frankie ate free too as kids do Monday-Thursday or it may of been for £1 I can’t quite remember. We also had a Cooks Fish & Chips dinner on our first night too, which you can takeaway or eat in the Live Lounge. I raved about Cooks after our Hopton stay & the Wild Duck joint didn’t dissapoint!
There is an outdoor park area by the Sitting Duck so you can have a drink in the sun when it’s out! They have also updated their cocktail offerings and expanded their spirits especially gin which I was over the moon to see which brings me to my next point…
They now offer a ‘table service’ so you can order drinks & snacks directly on your phone without leaving your seat in the Live Lounge which is FAB especially if you’re eyes down for bingo! We used it on one night but felt cheeky as it wasn’t busy at all! But the mojito and gin was served in good glasses which makes all the difference and the staff were friendly.
Last year if you read the review, I made a point that I personally thought that the entertainment for tots was a little late but this year I was glad that Tots Disco started from 6pm in the evening, including a visit from a member of the Seaside Squad, new games & round the world adventures & in particular our favourite new activity which was ‘Tots Rave’ all Mummy & Daddy’s favourite club classics like Show Me Love etc. but the kids have glow sticks it was great fun!
This year Frankie absolutely loved the Seaside Squad, especially Anxious & DJ Ned, he had no trouble doing the conga and lining up for his photo! Each morning we did rise and shine with the Squad in the Live Lounge and he fully participated, maybe last year he was too shy, this year he was well involved especially at bingo he loved it I’m so glad we ended up winning the mini figures he was over the moon!
Frankie also did Little Star and danced to Shotgun this year after auditioning & the team were all great fun and were excellent with the kids especially considering the circumstances you’d have no idea corona was on our doorstep.
The arcades are also contactless at Wild Duck, you have a card which you top up at a machine which gives you tokens so you don’t have to cart reels of tokens under your buggy!! Frankie chose a pop up pirate toy, bubbles & a monsters inc mug at the end of our stay after saving them up!
The Haven App is so easy to book on, they have so many activities like football, archery, dancing, pool games etc etc. & everything is detailed on the app even what evening entertainment is on so it’s well worth downloading and booking activities before your break. The level of effort put into each activity & the Nature themed activites are great too.
Wild Duck isn’t too far from Hopton & close to the pier, arcades, seafront and rides which we visited but all were closed which we expected from being out of season & corona of course.. But it’s a great area to visit in season, I’ve put pictures on my Hopton post click for link.
We can’t wait to go back to Wild Duck, I love Hopton too & I hope our break in May still goes ahead but we are most definently going to be booking to return to Wild Duck in the very near future, with Frankie 4 & Jack 10 months it’s a perfect getaway for their ages.
