Even before being pregnant with Frankie and buying numerous babygros and toys decorated in cute little blue bunnies I was fascinated by Beatrix Potter and The Tale of Peter Rabbit so when we found the Langdon Visitor Centre less than 10 minutes down the road to us boasting a Peter Rabbit Woodland Trail I couldn’t wait to bundle us in the car and go!
The Peter Rabbit Woodland Trail has been a favourite ‘weekend walk’ of ours since having Frankie & now he’s old enough to enjoy and appreciate finding the characters dotted around it’s even better! Maps are available to buy for just £1 and you can follow the trail around the reserve and lake to find the different characters.
Walking around the reserve, as well as the Peter Rabbit characters, you will find a fishing lake, wildlife gardens, vegetable patches, a woodland play area & many areas of conservation carried out by volunteers.
The Haven Plotlands Museum is also situated at Langdon Reserve which is the last of the Plotlands homes which were occupied during the war. You can visit the museum and see how those lived during the war which thrives on donations. (I did history at school & am fascinated by places like the Plotlands Home)! Suggested donation £2 for adults, £1 for under 16s and under 5s are free Haven Plotlands Museum
Inside the Langdon Visitor Centre you can purchase pre-made sandwiches, crisps & drinks and there are also homemade cakes. You can also purchase books and Peter Rabbit souvenirs. The toilets are also situated in this block.
Parking is free at Langdon Visitor Centre too, which is a bonus but the amount of upkeep that goes into the gardens, pond & Plotlands museums I would be happy to pay to park (within reason!) as other country parks charge for the same.
Upon our last visit I also noted they have a lot of events on for tots such as ‘Nature Tots’ and ‘Mr McGregor’s Garden Club’ which I am planning on taking Frankie along to on our days off! Langdon Nature Reserve – Events
If you are looking for something outside to do with the kids, the Langdon Nature Reserve is a fab way to spend a few hours. Just remember your wellies!
