Jack & The Beanstalk, Mercury Theatre, Colchester

We were lucky enough to be invited to the opening night of Jack & The Beanstalk at the Mercury Theatre in Colchester last week & the panto was an absolute joy! Despite Frankie’s initial horror at the dark packed theatre, he was soon won over by the delightful cast & the hilarious tales and laughs on the stage!

The show is full of sparkle, twists and absolute delight! Having gone to pantomines every year when I was younger I was keen to take Frankie to his first this year & I am so glad we chose Jack & The Beanstalk! We bought sweets & of course a light up flashing star to take in with us and had change from £10, the theatre is reasonably priced & they served ice cream at the interval win win!

Jack & The Beanstalk tells the tale of young Jack Trott, who finds his family in hard times so he goes to market to sell their cow Daisy, which he does, but in return for some measly beans! Little does his Mum know that those beans are magical and once thrown out the window they awake to find a huge great beanstalk with a giant lingering high above the clouds!

Antony Stuart Hicks as Dotty is absolutely hilarious and her anecdotes and tongue in cheek humor, in my opinion absolutely stole the show! Her rendition of Kelis, Milkshake was quite possibly my favorite part of the whole performance!

The show is jam packed with favourites such as Smooth Criminal, Flash Gordon, Bohemian Rhapsody and many more so you will find yourself singing from your seats!

Jack & The Beanstalk is running until the 20th January and we are already planning to come back with the family to experience the laughter again!

If you are looking to take the kids to a panto this year, you simply must book Jack & The Beanstalk! Tickets range from £12 – £31.50 and you can buy them here – Jack & The Beanstalk – Mercury Theatre.

Lastly, not being from Colchester myself I struggled to find a parking space (not google mapping it previously) so we parked on the main high street after 6pm for free but there is a multi-storey car park near by!
