Frankie had a hospital appointment up in Colchester (Frankie’s & the pre-op) and despite the sat nav saying otherwise we had over an hour to kill before we needed to be there so we decided to go for lunch first. After asking for recommendations of somewhere to eat with a play area, we went to the Dog & Pheasant which conveniently is 2 minutes down the road from the hospital.
Dog & Pheasant is a Hungry Horse restaurant with a park area outside with a slide, climbing tyres and a wooden ‘obstacle course’ which is gated off at the back of the restaurant with access to the car park. Frankie had fun climbing up and down the obstacle course and going up and down the slide.
Indoors there were booths with TV’s in, like the The Great Baddow Barn, Chelmsford, which is also a Hungry Horse but they were all on the football (when they were working) not kids TV which was a bit of a shame but there isn’t a dedicated indoor ‘children’s area so maybe this was why. There were a few £1 machines but none of them were working either(praise be!).
I ordered the ‘Beef Yorkie Wrap’ and Frankie had the kids fish finger meal, we spent £8 on both meals. The wrap came with chips too and although it could of benefitted from some more gravy (which I didn’t ask for) it was tasty for £4.79 and huge! Frankie’s fish fingers were warm and came with mash and corn which he ate all up! Menu – Dog & Pheasant
The beer garden was big enough to go and had enough ‘park equipment’ to keep the kids happy, if Frankie has more appointments we will go back for lunch & if we are up that way it’s good to know it’s there.
