After seeing Little Baby Bum Live in Southend last month, I stumbled across The Saxon King in Southend, close to Priory Park, Prittlewell. The interior is so nice and homely and the outside has a lovely little park for the kids!
The menus are well priced and the food was so nice! They offer a delicious flatbread menu, which I eventually settled on having the BBQ chicken flatbread which was cooked fresh on a station in the restaurant in view and made a refreshing change to the standard panini/sandwich option. They offer a £6 lunch option and their rotisserie options and dinner menu also look lovely and they’re also well priced – The Saxon King – Menus
Frankie ate off of the ‘little chicks menu’ for £3.95 and had, crispy dippers, skin on fries and corn on the cob which he ate every single bit of so it must of been nice! I didn’t upgrade as he’d already loaded up on sweets from watching Baby Bum Live but £5.99 for a starter, sweet & drink too is excellent for the quality of the pub and price.
The best bit was the outdoor area, the park was well kept and contained with play bits on the walls, wonky mirrors and a bridge and slide. I could sit and enjoy a drink in the sun without having to worry about him running out and the outdoor area is kept really nicely.
All in all I paid under £13 for our lunch and drinks which I would of paid going to a cafe or on softplay food and would of enjoyed less!
We went on a Monday lunchtime BUT the cocktail menu caught my eye (2 for £10 can I add), Espresso Martinis and Pina Colada’s – I can’t wait to go back for a special night like a birthday and sample some of them! The Saxon King – Cocktail Menu.
They also offer a brunch menu as an alternative to a ‘pub grub breakfast’ like haloumi and avocado bagels and french toast which I MUST go back and sample (for blogging purposes only..) The Saxon King – Brunch Menu.
If you do find yourself in or near Southend looking for somewhere less crowded for lunch/dinner, check out The Saxon King for good food, lovely decor & a park to keep the tots entertained!
BEWARE, they do have tubez £1 machines.. You all know how I feel about those bastard plastic things so make sure you take change..
